Dr. Mohammad Akhter Hossain

Dr. Mohammad Akhter Hossain has built his career by identifying medical ultrasound opportunities and shaping innovative training solutions to fulfil their potentials. With a true passion for education, his latest initiative has been the formation and growth of "Shristy Institute for Health Sciences & Technology" - a dedicated school for ultrasound training solutions.


As ultrasound imaging technology is becoming more and more affordable and mobile, his mission is to provide medical doctors and allied health professionals, particularly those at the “Point of care”, with the ultrasound skills that will promote best patient benefits.


From its inception, Dr. Hossain wanted Shristy Institute to be a leader in South Asia in ultrasound training with the vision “Knowledge through technology”. With Dr. Hugh Anthony Ellis from Canada and fellow faculties, this is being realized through the continuous creation and development of best educational programs in ultrasound.


Dr. Hossain is a very strong advocate for the use of ultrasound and its application beyond traditional boundaries, a view he maintains as a supporter of free and open access medical education initiative.


Prior to the creation of Shristy Institute for ultrasound training solutions in Bangladesh, he has worked as Physician Sonologist and also worked extensively in all other branches of medical imaging to get cross-training in CT scan, MRI, X-ray, Mammography in Medinova Medical Services since its inception at 1992. In fact he played a pivotal role in establishing Medinova Medical Services, the first and largest imaging center in both public and private sector with installing the first CT scan, first MRI, first digital fluoroscopy, first mammography, and first 3/4D ultrasound and recently first PET-CT in Bangladesh.



Dr. Hossain graduated as a medical doctor with MBBS from Sir Salimullah Medical College, Dhaka in 1982. After working as general physician in both public and private sector, in home and abroad, he started his career as a Sonologist in Medinova in 1992. Then he took his Advance Graduate diploma in Medical Ultrasonography from the Michener Institute, Canada. With his relentless pursuit of advancement, he took the ARDMS registry examination and obtained the globally recognized RDMS in abdominal and small parts ultrasound, OB/GYN ultrasound and RVT credentials in Vascular Doppler Sonography from USA.


In 2013, he achieved Fellowship in Academic ultrasound, Fetal-Maternal Medicine, Fetal and Adult Echocardiography from Thomas Jefferson University, USA. Besides, he has participated in many short term training program and seminars in vascular Doppler ultrasound, MSK ultrasound, OB/GYN ultrasound in Canada, India, Belgium & USA, Singapore and Germany.


With his continuous effort and initiative in preparing the students for ARMDS accreditation, many students at Shristy Institute inspired and taken the most wanted ARDMS licensing examination with almost 100% success rate and are now doing job across Canada and USA.


In a Clinical setting, Dr. Hossain is a highly qualified General Sonologist, with a particular interest and specialization in Obstetrics, Fetal-Maternal Medicine, Vascular Doppler & Musculoskeletal Ultrasound.
